Judith Torrea, is an award-winning independent blogger, journalist and author based in Ciudad Juárez, México, specialized in drug trafficking, organized crime, death penalty, immigration and politics in the US – Mexico border, a reality she has covered over the last 14 years, 9 of them living between the two borders. Her blog has become a platform for actively denouncing the impunity with which drug-trafficking organized crime is operating in front of the passive Mexican Government and politicians. She has won several journalism awards in the United States, France and Spain, including among them the 2010 Ortega y Gasset award on digital journalism for her blog: Ciudad Juarez, in the shadow of drug trafficking. In 2011 her blog won the Reporters Without Borders prize in the BOBs awards, and she edited the book “Juarez in the shade”
